River Day is the WRWA's FREE family fun day to celebrate the River. River Day offers many activities and staged performances. Enjoy all of the activities, and celebrate the Westport River.
River Day this year will feature many local vendors and exhibitors with the emphasis on the environment. Many of the local non-profits offer an interactive children’s activity for a fun learning experience. The River Center building will open to the public for educational programming on the first floor. WRWA is also bringing in some “wandering artists” to engage people as they juggle, sing, and entertain, as well as mini horses from Archangel Equestrian.
Also featured will be The Eastern Medicine Singers Algonquin Language Culture Keepers led by Chief 2 Running Elk, who is a direct descendant of Paul Cuffee. River Day In this way will maintain a spotlight on Indigenous people who have direct links to Westport History.
At 12:30, Dave Curry, drum facilitator from Drums For One and All, will lead a community drum and dance circle until 2 pm to close out the event. All are welcome to participate. There will be extra drums and we will have some chairs set up. Please feel free to bring your own chairs, blankets, drums, rattles, didgeridoos, or other musical instruments. You are also welcome to bring poi, dance silks, ribbon wands and other dancing toys.
